The American Basketball Association (ABA) was a men's professional basketball league that existed from 1967 to 1976. Much of the league's history was marked by financial difficulties and instability with its franchises. The ABA ceased to exist with the ABA-NBA merger in 1976. Four of the existing ABA teams at the time of the merger (the Denver Nuggets, New York Nets, Indiana Pacers, and San Antonio Spurs) joined the NBA.
