The Brooklyn Nets are an American professional basketball team based in the New York City borough of Brooklyn. The Nets compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference.

The team began play in 1967 as the New Jersey Americans, a charter franchise of the American Basketball Association, and joined the NBA in 1976.
