The Boston Breakers were sold and relocated to New Orleans, Louisiana as the New Orleans Breakers on October 18, 1983. Six expansion teams were added to the league: the Houston Gamblers, Jacksonville Bulls, Memphis Showboats, Oklahoma Outlaws, Pittsburgh Maulers, and San Antonio Gunslingers.
