The 1949-50 NBA season was the inaugural season of the National Basketball Association, which was created in 1949 by merger of the 3-year-old Basketball Association of America (BAA) and 12-year-old National Basketball League (NBL). The postseason tournament (the 1950 NBA playoffs) at its conclusion, ended with the Minneapolis Lakers winning the NBA Championship, beating the Syracuse Nationals 4 games to 2 in the NBA Finals.
