The Ottawa Senators were an ice hockey team based in Ottawa, Ontario which existed from 1883 to 1935. The club was the first hockey club in Ontario, a founding member of the National Hockey League (NHL) and played in the NHL from 1917 until 1934. That version of the Senators franchise relocated in 1934 and played as the St. Louis Eagles for one season before folding. A second Senators franchise continued as a senior amateur club until 1954.
The Senators were technically reinstated to the NHL when the new Ottawa Senators began play in 1992, but for record-keeping purposes the two are reckoned as separate clubs.
