The Atlanta Hawks are an American professional basketball team based in Atlanta, Georgia. The Hawks compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league's Eastern Conference Southeast Division.
The Hawks began play in 1946 as the Buffalo Bisons, a member of the National Basketball League and joined the NBA in 1949.
