The 2018 NFL regular season is upon us, and I’m using this occasion to make a change to the weekly NFL flashback series. Rather than post a gallery for each week’s matchup I’m going to highlight one cover of interest.

This week I have to go with something for the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles. They’re hosting the Atlanta Falcons, so I went back all the way to the first regular season game between the two franchises.

On September 18, 1966 the Eagles hosted the Falcons at Franklin Field during Week 2. Hi Y’all Falcons indeed.

PHILADELPHIA EAGLES VS. ATLANTA FALCONS (SEPTEMBER 18, 1966)

That’s Eagles QB Norm Snead (#16) under center with Jim Ringo (#54). Philly came away with a 23-10 win thanks to a TD rush from Snead and a 114-yard, 1 TD performance from running back Izzy Lang.
