This program hails from the earliest days of the National Football League — in fact, during the league’s third year of existence and the first after changing its name from the American Professional Football Association (APFA). It features a contest between two long-defunct squads, the Canton Bulldogs and Akron Pros. This was the year Canton 10-0-2 en route to a league championship.
This game was played on November 30, 1922, making it one of the oldest in my virtual collection. It was just eight pages long and was basically comprised of ads and lineup information. Pictured on the front are Bulldogs head coach Guy Chamberlin and owner/GM Ralph Hay.
