After 13 years, 599 appearances, and 253 goals for Manchester United, soccer legend Wayne Rooney is returning to the club he first called home — Everton. A recently announced two-year deal with the Toffees brings the all-time Manchester United and England goal scorer back to the club he left in 2004.

Before he pulls on his blue shirt for the first time this year, let’s look at a few historic programs from his first stint at the Merseyside club.

Rooney’s first appearance with Everton’s senior team was on August 17, 2002 in a home game against Tottenham Hotspur. He picked up an assist in a 2-2 draw.

Rooney scored his first goals for Everton nearly two months later, bagging a brace against Wrexham in a Football League Cup match on October 1, 2002.
