Today I learned that the Calgary Stampeders aren’t just Alberta’s premier football team, they were also a minor league hockey club as well. And as proof, here is a great program from their 1951-52 season in the Pacific Coast Hockey League (PCHL).

The Stampeders played in several amateur and professional league circuits from 1938 through 1972, although they suspended operations during World War II. They also stopped for a time in the 1960s, reportedly due to problems with their affiliation with the Chicago Black Hawks.

Starting in 1950 the team played in Stampede Corral until they ceased operations. The arena was later home to the NHL’s Calgary Flames for three seasons.
